A rat trap for horizontal sewer lines consists of a device that can be installed in a cleaning and inspection well.

The rat barrier contains two flaps which are suspended independently of each other, which allows free passage of the dwelling's wastewater and at the same time prevents rats' access to the dwelling's sewer system.

In Denmark, there are very strict requirements for rat barriers. They must be produced in material that the rat cannot gnaw on, for example acid-resistant stainless steel AISI 316. All welded joints must be stained after the joint has been sealed so that the welds cannot be attacked by rust.

Who must install rat barriers?

Installation of rat barriers in culverts and drainage installations may only be carried out by persons employed by an authorized sewer master company who have at the same time either obtained an R1 authorization, cf. section 17, subsection. 1 or has a certificate as a rat barrier fitter, cf. section 32 para. 2.

We always recommend a review of the sewer system with a focus on the condition of the sewer before installing the rat trap. This is to ensure that the pipes are free of damage and are suitable for mounting the rat trap.

It is important to supervise the rat trap to ensure optimal operation and avoid clogging in the sewer system. Inspection and service of the rat barrier is agreed with the sewer master during installation.

Rat traps from Nordisk Innovation are VA-approved in the dimensions from Ø100 - Ø250 mm.

To be sure that the rat barrier complies with these requirements and also effectively ensures protection against the rats not being able to get through, the rat barrier is tested with subsequent VA approval at ETA DANMARK. This VA approval is the consumer's guarantee that the rat trap has been tested and approved and complies with the established standards for rat barriers.
